MWGG was formed because many of our members studied geology through evening classes. When the classes finished they wanted to continue their interest in geology, particularly through field visits.
As a result we just have a Chair and a Treasurer to organise the programme and handle any costs. Small sub-groups of members may be formed at times to help with particular subjects eg helping to organise field trips, or arranging the residential. Our AGM is in November and is part of one of our indoor meetings.

Because of this background, please note that we do expect some basic understanding of geology from members. However we also try to ensure that most presentations and supporting documents for fieldtrips are phrased in a readily understandable language.

We have some public liability insurance through the Geological Association (necessary for quarry visits, for example). Individuals are, though, totally responsible for wearing appropriate clothing and footwear, bringing appropriate food and drink and taking care of both themselves and their possessions on outings of any sort.
Membership comes from across Yorkshire and we now have some members just ‘over the border’ – in various directions. Day field trips can therefore involve some distance of travel and several people do share this in private arrangements.
If you have an interest in geology, like the sound of our present programme and past events, you are very welcome to attend meetings and/or field trips. If you wish to become a member please contact mwggcontact@gmail.com for a membership form. At present membership costs £15 per annum.
